Weekly hospital update
Last week the hospital received 127 animals for care, bringing the total for the year to 4735.

Two of the patients were western fence lizards, both caught by cats. They suffered punctures and lacerations and are on antibiotics to prevent infection from the cat bites. Western fence lizards are an important part of a healthy ecosystem and help people stay healthy, too. When a tick carrying Lyme disease bites a western fence lizard, the lizard’s blood clears the Lyme disease bacteria from the tick, so the tick won’t pass Lyme disease to you. This is just another reason to keep cats indoors.
